broken arm injury

One of the first questions I get from friends or family who have been in an accident or have gotten hurt is “When should I call a lawyer after an injury?”  The answer is simple.

If you’ve been injured, call a lawyer.  Always.

If you have been in a car accident, call a lawyer.

If you have been in a motorcycle accident, call a lawyer.

If you have been in a bicycle accident, call a lawyer.

If you have been in a truck accident, been bitten by a dog,  sustained a head injury, a lawyer.

What happens if you call a personal injury attorney?

Calling a lawyer does not mean you necessarily have a case, but it should not cost you anything to get advice about your situation from a personal injury lawyer. A respectable injury lawyer will listen to you as you explain what happened and will give you advice without charging you a dime. They will ask you a few questions and help you determine if you do have a case or not. The worst that can happen is that they’ll tell you there’s nothing they can do to help. The best? They determine that you have a case and can help you potentially get money to help pay for medical bills, cover any wage loss, and recover from other damages that might be owed to you.

It is important that you never speak with a personal injury attorney who wants to charge you for this initial call or visit. They won’t ever have your best interest at heart.

What if my case isn’t a big deal?

Worried your situation doesn’t warrant getting legal help? Don’t. An experienced lawyer will give you invaluable advice, no matter how ‘big’ or ‘small’ the case may be.  They’ll be able to see potential avenues for recovering for your medical bills, wage loss and emotional injuries and sometimes even punitive damages. More importantly, they’ll be able to quickly assess whether your situation does or doesn’t warrant legal assistance.

So, when should you call?

To recap, you should always call a lawyer if you were:

  • in a car accident,
  • injured in a motorcycle accident, bicycle accident or truck accident,
  • had a slip and fall injury,
  • injured by a dog bite or other animal,
  • injured through no fault of your own

Remember a respectable lawyer will not charge you for your initial phone call.  At the Law Offices of Mark D. Rosenberg, we never charge for an initial phone call and will be happy to give you an honest opinion about the merits of your case and what you should do following your injury.
